Quilt markers
What is your favorite marker for quilting? One that is not permanent? Do they dry up if not used for long time? Just wondering because I bought package of FriXion and couple I had never used seemed all dried up. So is there a time frame? Just cuirous.

I use the blue wash away type and have not had any problems. I need the darker line to see. But I do wash my quilts in plain water first to remove all marks and glues used in creating the quilt. Then I wash the quilt a second time with detergent and fabric sofner (sp). I have been doing this for close on 20 years without a problem. I just started using the FriXion pens, but I mostly use these for embroidery and mostly on white. Haven't had any dry up yet.

I only use Frixions on small sewing projects and mark in the seam allowances. I sometimes use my Hera marker but mostly I use white chalk. I do not use coloured chalk as it can stain.

I use a lot of different methods depending on the fabric I'm marking and what I'm doing: blue painter's tape, removable Contac paper, golden threads quilting paper, blue wash away pen, white chalk marker. Each has its ups and downs!

I've been wondering the same thing as I've had the same thing happen!

I like the air erasable ones. I use Leonis brand from Amazon as they are inexpensive. They don't seem to dry up fast. You can't mark any more than 1/2 hour beyond where you are going to use it however as it will disappear. I've had some issues with Frixion pens leaving a shadow - almost like a bleached out line - on some fabrics when they are ironed so I use those pens with caution. I always have one in my sewing room to mark the back of fabric or to write with as I know if I accidentally get some on some fabric it will come out but I wouldn't use them to mark a quilt for quilting. I've also used a pounce pad if I'm using a stencil as that works well and is fast.
