This is a great idea! I meandered around the blog it comes from and found another easy idea for a variable 9 patch. Just make a 9 patch, then cut in quarters and reassemble with centers to outside. So many great ideas out there!

Karen Hellaby of Quilters Haven has a book describing this technique---'Sew Simple Pineapple' published in 2008. She now has a second book--'Pineapple Plus' published in 2010.

It is a cute blog and I love the idea of the cinnamon waffles.

Just curious whether you have any problem with the edges stretching or buckling. Looks like the edges would be on the bias.

I haven't tried it yet, but I certainly will keep the bias edges in mind. Thanks for pointing it out!
