Default Who ordered Aurifil big spool of 50wt cotton today for $7 a spool?

QIAD had another great sale this morning. I got white, gray, black, and variations of gray and the white thread colors. The spools are $12 on sale at the local shops here. I couldn't pass this sale up. I hope everyone is signed up for QIAD emails so not to miss out on the sales. I heard just a rumor (oh I hope it isn't true) that QIAD is selling now that Eleanor is retired from the business end and her son has run the business for years. The sales have been very generous these last few months.

Just went there to look and saw nothing like that. Do you have a link to that offer?

Years ago I was getting ready to quilt a flimsy, this was back when all I used was creme and/or white threads. Too chicken to use a color thread. Anyway, my program I use to lay out the patterns gives me the amount of thread yardage. I read it wrong, thought it said yards not feet so I ordered 7 spools each of #2021 and #2024. To my surprise afterwards I realized I only needed 1 spool. I don't use white or creme often these days so still have a lot of spools left. I use one on my spare machine for piecing just to use it up. Still laughing at myself for that mistake.

It really makes me think when something is so drastically reduced in price from normal. The sale price still has profit margin for the store. Just how much is thread marked up? At $7 a spool the store is making $2 profit a spool? $3? At $14 dollars the same spool the profit is $9 or more a spool? Do shops pay more for thread to sell? if so, why so much more to have to sell at $14? I like to buy from local quilt shops but I draw the line at prices that much above and beyond the online prices.

Most shops around here sell Aurifil for $11 to $13 per spool. But there is a store in northern Indiana (Amish owned) that sells it for less than $9. I stock up there whenever I go.

Thank you for the link. I too only use the neutral colors in Aurifil. I have been afraid that some day I would hear that Eleanor Burns would retire. I used to get her shows on TV but I guess our local channel quit showing them. I used to love to watch her videos. My LQS sells the spools for $13.00 a spool but once in awhile they have a sale and I can buy 4 for the price of 3 spools and I load up on thread at that time.

The white and other neutral colors sold out fast. Limit two spools of one color per order. There is a sale everyday and it stays on sale until sold out. You can sign up for the daily email. You never know what will be a great bargain.

I signed up for their sales. I've bought before and shipping was fast.
