Default wonky precuts bargain of a lifetime.

Ikea. They sell bundles of precuts of their decorator fabrics. 5 bucks for a bundle of 50. You do have to resize them. They measure between 7 1/2 to 8 1/4, but for 15 bucks I have a really cool bold modern print quilt top. I'm not doing anything fancy. Just squares and it can be my picnic blanket maybe. Gonna back it with the 1 dollar a yard thrift store bargain I found. Don't you love finding this kind of stuff?

Thought some of you might like to check this out. They also sell by the yard and Ikea is always cheap.

the fabric is decorator weight isn't it?

edited to add, because my question sound...off
decorator fabric is wonderful for quilts with bigger blocks, but far too bulky for blocks with lots of seams.

I have never seen them at the Ikea in Michigan, will need to look specifically specifically for them the next time I go. How are they displayed, hanging or in bins? Thanks for the idea not that I need more but that is the fun of quilting.

I bought some yardage of solid color quilting cottons at IKEA recently. Super nice quality and the price was so low... $2.99 for the solids and $1.99 for a really nice muslin. I also picked up one of these:

Thanks for sharing your experience with using out-of-the-ordinary sources for your quilting. I recycle and use thrift store goodies all the time. I love it when others catch on to thinking of quilting in new ways.

I am a longarmer and I would be afraid the seams would be to thick to go over. It does sound like a bargain tho.

Check your Furniture Stores - ask about discontinued pattern swatches of materials. The ones I purchased were gorgeous and I made several cushion covers! Gave several pieces to a local Boy Scout Troop who made covers for prescription glasses for charity. Just an idea....

I'm in the middle of quilting this one right now and having a blast with it. It's just big squares and I'm trying to do fancier quilting stitches than I've done before. You just have to be a bit slower and careful where the seams are. It isn't fabric to do a lot of little seams and piecing into intricate stuff as someone already pointed out, but I thought it was fun to not know exactly what was in the bundles till I got it home.

I live a five hour drive from the nearest Ikea and want more of this stuff. There was one fabric in particular I didn't get any of that I want to make a handbag out of. Maybe they see the stuff online?
