Smile Mixing fabrics in baby quilt

Hi all. I am preparing to make a baby quilt for a modern mom, who has requested natural , softer materials. Recently I’ve done a couple quilts using Double Gauze, which becomes softer each washing. But the top of the quilt will be covered in several Embroidered Bible verses. I plan on using Kona cotton as the base material, to hold these quotes in blocks throughout. Will either use bamboo, flannel, or cotton for batting. So I thought Mabe I could use the Double gauze as the backing, since that is what goes against baby’s skin. Is this Doable as a combination? Would the top of the quilt be too heavy for the back with Double Gauze. Any thoughts, ideas , or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!!

My sister made me a quilt with cottons on the front, gauze on the back and wool batting. It is getting softer with each wash but i notice some fuzzy on the back. I am not sure if it’s the batting or the gauze. Its the first time w have used either of those so i dont know what long term will be. But it quilted beautifully!
