I looked at Connectinf Threads sadly they don't ship internationally. I may have to work out a deal with friends I have in Florida! The web site suggests having orders mailed to a US address and then have it forwarded. X

I have seen that price but it would have to really jump up and say "buy me" for me to shell out that kind of cash. In fact, when we got the tax money back, I was going to get some, and have not done it yet. I have reached the age when I know that what I have now will probably not get used in my lifetime. Next time Jim and I go into town, plan to visit the chocolate shop.

Guys, guys, guys,

You are so lucky over in the USA $13.00 a yard is great. Over here in the UK we pay approximately £13 - £17 ($20 - $27) per metre... and if you shop at Libertys for their Lawn you are looking at £22 - £30 ($34 - $47) per metre.....

So... think about your poor quilting cousins in the Uk when you are buying all that beautiful fabric that you have over there!

Now.... I'm not one to complain - LOL LOL LOL!

Hugs and happy stitching!

Caroline

They've been holding around $10.99 a yard around here. There are a ton of shops though, so it's the competition that is keeping prices low. I think if they bring up the prices they run the risk of going out.

I own a women's clothing store and attend garment shows in NYC and Mass. regularly. Cotton has gone up a lot over the last few years and I imagine it isn't going to get any cheaper.

Here in the Bay Area I have seen $13.99 and $14.99 a yard. I shop on line or I wait until the sales. I am lucky I have a home ec teacher friend who gives me all the scraps the students discard. (sometimes they cut 6 inches out of 1 yard of fabric and throw the rest away.)

Hi sval- I am sorry about your sticker shock. When I first started quilting in 2002, Hoffman's and other top of the line
fabrics were $6 or $7/yd with normal fabric at about $3 to $4. My first shock came when I multiplied out what a
B.O.M. quilt cost and realized I still had to add batting, backing and spend the hours to make it.
LQS in my area [outside Boston[ are still $11 to $12/yd.
I recommend trying online sites - I've only been disappointed twice: once by garish colors and once by size of print.
The cheapest sites that I have found that still carry quality fabric include: (1) Thousands of bolts but only one nut;
(2) Marshall's Dry Goods; (3) Connecting Threads-fabric is regularly $5.96 but goes on sale for $3.99 and $4.99;
and (4) Fabric Shack. JoAnn's is good too but you need to shop in store because I have been fooled by fairly transparent
solids on occasion. Best of luck - Judy

Batiks are always higher in price then regular cotton fabric and good batiks are worth a higher price.
Except for new quilters most of us have quite a stash. I think if shop owners would decide to be happy with just double their cost to the public they would be surprised to find out that many more people will purchase their goods and their profit will gp

Sorry !......go up because of volume sold. I've also noted that shop owners who provide a variety of colors and designs that would please the general public instead of stocking up on only their personal preferences are more successful. Just my observations............
