replacing my laser pointer
I am looking for a laser pointer for my Mega quilter that is on an Inspira quilting frame. the one that came with the machine and frame that I bought from Joann's as a floor sample 15 years ago. the spring in the pointer was broken and I could not get it to work and can't find any pointer like it on line or in stores. The only one that I saw online was by Dequn (Made in China) that had poor reviews. Any ideas or suggestions?.

Many times the laser pointer is a dedicated part as the power source for the light is often a plug on the LA itself. I had to go to my machine manufacturer to get the replacement for mine. Did you try contacting any dealers who still carry this machine like Sewing Machines Plus or Bonnies Sewing Center?

I think that would be my first course of action.
You could also try contacting other LA dealers such as Handiquilter, Innova, APQS, etc to see if their pointer can be adapted to fit your machine.
When my pointer was being shipped I substituted a giant size knitting needle as a makeshift stylus to use for doing pantos. This low tech solution, suggested to me by Innova, worked surprisingly well. In fact my dealer had included this giant knitting needle with my LA as part of my starter package. Before laser lights, LAQ used a stylus to help them guide the machine head. I just put the knitting needle into the clamp that held my laser light and positioned it so the point was just a fraction of an inch (1/8 to 1/4) above my panto table and followed the pattern by watching the tip of the knitting needle. This will help get you up and running until you can find a replacement unit.

You can also get a small laser pointer in an office supply place and clamp it into place to use. When desparate, I have taped one to the bracket. As long as it's mounted firmly and can't move, it will work well.
Sometimes our local dollar store has laser pointers in the office supply section, or even some times in the pet supply area (for kitty to chase).

I had the same problem. I didn't turn off my pointer and the battery ran...a mess. The pointer wasn't manufactured any longer and so I purchased a good quality laser pointer and taped it in position.

Don't know if this will work but it may be worth checking out...Harbor Freight sells small laser pointers. They are generally used as saw guides as shown in the photo attached. They attach to the drill with magnets. I bought one to use as a 1/4" guide on my Brother Innovis 1250D but there's no metal on the machine! Shot myself in the foot. But if you have metal this might work for you. Regular price is $5.99 but they are seasonally on sale. Good luck.
