20% off fabric. Does that entice you to shop?

My LQS had 30% off at 12am on Black Friday and there was a line to get in the store. I waited until 2:30am to get my fabric cut. I didn't mind since I found some nice quilters to talk to while I waited. I did buy 3 pieces of fabric. But I could not believe what I saw some people getting cut. Their carts were full of fabric!

If most quilters realized how much the cost of fabric to the quilt stores has increased this year, they would understand why stores can't offer much more than 20% off. Remember, they have to replace the sold fabric with more expensive fabric to keep the store going.
Many stores get to the point that they just can't continue to do business at today's costs, and end up closing. Then all quilters will find less and less places to purchase fabric from.
everyone is in this money crunch, stores as well as quilters.

My LQS always has a corner with 40% off and if you take what is left on the roll, it is 50% off. Once in 2010, she offered 60% off on markdowns. For 2011, I need to stop stashing and start sewing more.

20% seems to be the standard sale at LQS's around here. I don't buy much, if at all, as my stash has grown greatly this past year and I know now when their big sales come around. However, I often buy 1/2 yd cuts to get 2 FQs and 20% off any batik is a deal.

A couple months ago I happen to drive North an hour to one of my favorite shops. Saw a tent set up in the front yard. SALE !! Guess I'll check it out. Over 100 bolts of fabric from the shop marked 2,3 and 4 a yard. I chose mostly blenders and a couple of larger florals. Since I make alot of nursing home quilts I mostly looked for things to go with the florals and kept in mind what I had at home as well. I thought great, this is more than I expected, so I go inside to check out orientals for my avatar quilt and the clerk says, you're in luck - today our orientals are marked at 40% off. Needless to say, I was very happy I decided to go there that particular day

Sorry didn't mean to duplicate that msg, anyway, the clerk inside said they have this sale once a year to clear out anything that is one year or older. That keeps the customers visiting on a regular basis to see what's new.
