My favourites are 1/4 inch patchwork piecing foot, darning foot for FMQ, walking foot and regular zig zag foot that I leave on until I change out my feet. I do like my open toe appliqué foot for machine appliqué but I don't use it as much as the others.

I use the open toe foot for applique and the 1/4" foot for piecing.

I use the "normal" foot (don't know what else to call it, but it's just the basic foot) and the walking foot. If I need a scant 1/4", I use my satin stitch foot (it pulls the fabric into the little groove, giving me a scant 1/4"). I don't use a 1/4" foot because I like to guide my seam line, well before it gets to the pressure foot. Years ago, I bought something called "The Angler"(?), which I use as a seam guide.

I have a Pfaff, so I use the 1/4" with flange guide foot, the 'star' foot, and the regular zigzag foot the most. The 'star' foot is an form of an open toe applique foot.

I'm with Nessie. I don't use the 1/4 inch foot on any of my machines, just the regular foot. You'll have to experiment to see what works best for You. The other two feet I use are the walking foot and darning foot. Plus the fourth one - my foot on the pedal. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

1/4 foot or quarter inch foot for piecing, walking foot for binding and darning foot for quilting.

I have a Pfaff, so no walking foot necessary. I use a 1/4" with and without a guide, a clear open-toe for appliqué and the 'Sensormatic' foot (like a darning foot, but 'hovers' instead of jumping up and down).

    1/4" (regular and walking)
    open toe (regular and walking)

i know ... that adds up to four.
but those are the feet that i use more than any others.
