Holice,
Thanks for your post. Looks like fun, but i don't understand the math here. If you cut each rectangle (marked 1, 2, 3 in the drawing) at 3" x 5.5", how does the finished block measure 2.5" x 7.5"? I'm confused:?: Can you clarify this please? thanks!

Why would it have to be certain sizes? As long as they were all cut the same? Does that make sense?

Yes, that makes sense. I think it is entirely possible to vary the size, as long as the width x 2 - 1/2" = the length.
what is confusing to me is that the size of the individual block on the instructions comes out to 2.5" x 7.5". That is what doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I just can't visualize the block.
Can you give me a link to the finished quilt, perhaps? thanks!

The only ones that I have seen that are finished were on here. Looks like they would be pretty simple.

I normally select three coordinating prints. However, you can see from the poka dot version that the arrangement is random without design. I like the way the border was made. I used up strips left from cutting the rectangles.
Me, too, so I did a search and found it: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-47312-1.htm

Why couldn't you use jellly rolls. I like the pattern and it could be a modern looking quilt.

Thanks so much for sharing your pattern. I love it! I loved it so much that I just had to dig out 3 different baby fabric and started cutting 2 1/2 strips from each. Then I came back to look at the pattern again and I see you cut the strips a little different. I did some calculations using what my size block comes out (4 1/2 x 6 1/2) and with some adjustments on the borders, the quilt will come out 40 x 40. Thanks for inspiring me. I am going to sew it together tomorrow. I wasn't sure how you sewed it together but I am going to sew two strips together and then cut the set apart and then sew on the rectangle on top. Hope it works, I'll recheck to see if I come out with the measurement I calculated. I will post a picture of top before I quilt it. Thanks again!

What is confusing you is that the size would be what would
be showing when all the seams are sewn and the surface showing on the front side of the quilt would be 2 1/2 by 7 1/2
as the finished size. You would not have the 3 inch measurement once the seams are sewn together, hope this
clears it up for you. It would have the 3 inch before it is attached to the next block.
