? about bigger throat on machine
#11
I am looking for the same thing. I need more room since I am quilting on a handi quilter frame. Or trying to anyway. I have measured all my sewing machines, yes I have several, too many, and the best so far is my old Bernina. It is seven inches plus. I have been watching Craigslist, and have seen a few that would work great, but I never have the money when I find them. Oh well, maybe someday.

Good morning
I have a Janome Gold and a Platinum. The latter is a bit computerized - has a needle down button.
Got them both on sale at LQS and love them both.
The Gold came with all the attachments and carrying case for about $300.

My neighbor turned her machine sideways to quilt, it worked fabulous.I have the janome jem platinum and I really like it. So I plan to turn it sideways and see how that works for me! I would put my money in a good quality machine and have needle down & a few nice extra stitches and try turning your machine to quilt. Won't hurt to try!

Thanks for all the responses.
Deedum, I am trying to visualize "turning my machine sideways" (squinting real hard) lol
Is that where the left side/end of your machine would actually be facing you- long ways? Wouldnt you still have the "not enough throat space for material" problem?
Sorry if this is real obvious but, I just woke up and haven't had my coffee yet. That's my story and I'm sticking to it lol

I have a Janome 1600DBX, it is a mechanical maching, no fancy stitches, no embroidery, just straight sewing. However is does have a 9 inch harp. I have quilted double size quilts on it. Go to Ken's Sewing and check them out, I think they are closer to your price range.
Personally, I would think twice about going to Arbuckle's.

PS speaking from experience, sorry if this offends

Hey guys, I went to Kens sewing...I looked up previously used machines but the also have refurbished machines and found one that sounds pretty good..What are your opinions of these?
This is their description of refurbished>
What is Refurbished? Most major retail superstores offer a 30-day money back guarantee on their products and consumers simply take the item back for any reason or for no real reason at all. Most returned items are just open box units with nothing truly wrong with them. Some are genuine problem units, those units are scraped for parts or thrown away. Problem or broken units are too expensive to fix because any refurbished product must be sold at a discount, therefore it does not pay to fix those units. All returned open box units are thoroughly inspected and repackaged. Since it is illegal to sell any open box product as new, all open box units must be sold as refurbished. The manufacturer's loss is your gain!
JulieM, ,I did go check out that Janome 1600DBX and they are pretty expensive over a 1000 opposed to my price range of around 3-4 hundred..Unless I'm reading it wrong..And I was all cited n stuff lol

I bought a New Home (older janome just a different name) at a thrift store for about $35.00 I love her, she is a work horse and one of the smoothest machines I've ever pieced on. No needle up/down but absolutely awesome for piecing, they sometimes have newer machines at thrift stores, just offering you another option until you can find EXACTLY what you want.
