I vote for sashing too, along with corner-stones at each intersection. Those are just amazing. I just went to www.fatcatpatterns.com and found some amazing applique designs there. I really like the chickens and the aquatic ones.

I would, no question, use sashing. Those are too pretty to not set each one apart to shine. Great applique job!
