When I have a lot of really straight lines, I always use something curvy or feathers or flowers. I like quiltedsunshine's second simple pattern that loops into the 9 patches.

I have no idea of what quilting design to suggest but just wanted to tell you your quilt is beautiful. Love the fabrics and I always love the 9-patch. I am sure someone will give you great ideas on a quilting design

Love this! So bright and cheerful; it would make me smile just to be covered by this. Why not do a cross-hatch thru the 9 patches, leave the white ones open to fill in with a small medallion with some curve to it.

In quiltedsunshine's diagram she has a design in the far left that can be done w/a walking foot. I have done several like it using a walking foot.
By the way, your quilt is wonderful!

Chamshells or Baptist Fans are my go-to for quilting soft curves on quilts with straight lines. They are gentle enough that you can do them with a walking foot.

sometimes on squares i go across in lines or do zig zags down the rows. is easier on a small throat machine and looks good too.
or with my walking foot i do slight curves. say in a four patch, i do a curve to the center and then the curve the other side to the corner of the block. easy too.

I finally decided on quilting this in the orange peel style, I just finished marking and basting it today. I think I am going to do straight lines in the borders, just to add a little contrast. I had to piece the back, I didn't buy quite enough fabric for it, and very pleased with the results.

I also took the time to get used to how my new machine quilts on a very old UFO, so I won't have nearly as much of a learning curve when I get it on the machine!

Hi everyone, I finished this top over the weekend and finally got it washed today. I did go with the orange peel quilting on it, and I love the effect. Here are some pictures, sorry if they're a bit blurry. My room is always dark, it's extra gloomy today and I kept having to move the camera away from the cat, who was absolutely sure I was taking pictures of her, lol.

Thanks for all your advice and encouragement!

A flange binding, which was easy to do and gave it such a finished look:

The pieced back with all the scraps:

I think I did pretty good, considering this is only my fourth quilt, and second bed-sized!
