I can't add to the other topic I had so here goes...A few months ago we were allowed to have Afghan women quilt and sew with us. I had a hard time getting photos uploaded so this is a rare opportunity and I hope it works. These women had no idea that there were American women on our compound. The people outside the gate think that we are in prison because we did something bad.To them we are in jail because of our protective measures. They were so astonished to learn what we were really doing here and how liberated American women are. They hand quilt everything or use treadles from Pakistan and China. Electricity is very iffy here. We had to discontinue our program in the first week of August because of security issues. We are keeping in touch through email (imagine that)!

THe quilt if gorgeous. And what a great project.

Are you by any chance working with Art at IBOL/ABOL?

Sounds like a great match. ;-)

I've been sending about 8 boxes a year to IBOL. I didn't sent this year to ABOL as I was totally distracted with real life.
I'm putting together boxes for the next time - hopefully, I'll be all ready when he makes his next call for bundles.

Thanks for sharing. I love to see quilts from around the world. While quilting is universal, you can certainly see the influence of the various countries and cultures. These are beautiful.

I don't know anything about any other organization. This is new but very welcomed here. We make kids quilts and some of the women knit and crochet. It is good to know there are other like minded people supporting the Afghans. The common people are very thankful.

Art is Capt Art F. (as in the USArmy) stationed in Iraq. It's sort of this fly-by-night thing he set up a few years ago. Not really an organization. It's basically him in his spare time, and maybe an assistant or two. ;-)

You should take a look at that website again - he started the thing as a lark and ended up with thousands of packages the first year to give out to women in communities way off the grid. Maybe he could help you with supplies. He's all about making bridges.
I'd be more than happy if the bundles were being sent to you to be given to the women working with you..
