Hi,
I have a ? for anyone. Has anyone read McCalls Quilting Seept/Oct issue concerning copyright issues and having to get the author of a book or patterns permission before you can show a quilt at a show or qlt guild meeting and if so what is the feeling about it. Don't want to open a can of worms if it has already been discussed and I missed it.
Thanks, Marion

Hi, Marion,
I've heard something about this but have not read the mag. BUT, ( here's my 2 cents)... sometimes you buy a pattern and you realize that it is impossible to follow ( you know...you can't make heads or tails of it, it isn't clear) so you FIX it your way and then it becomes your own. When exactly do the copyright issues begin?....because now with the changes you have made it is your own pattern! As long as you give credit where credit is due why would I need permission? ...I'm just saying.

Hi Bels,
I guess according to the article which is quite intense we really don't have a right to even show the quilt if there is an author or pattern maker that gets upset. It happened at one of the meetings down here when someone showed a quilt and said it was hers and the author was there and said it was hers and the discussion began and author said she would see her in court.. So now I am really leary about showing quilts without permission and it has to be in writing.
