Default Almost there….

My Prismatic quilt month four has you using templates and it is taking me forever to trace and cut these things out. I got all the fabric colors cut out except for black…. I have NINE strips with traced templates in them that I have to cut out before I can start piercing the blocks….. I was using a rotary cutter for a while but my arm was getting sore, so I’ve gone back to scissors. Have any of you had a quilt that used templates before? Was it a pain to trace them out and cut them? Blah!

Are you cutting them out singly or several layers at a time?

I think this used to be a much more common way to make a quilt.... before rotary cutters and before cutting machines... one of my guild friend's who has been quilting for many years said she was surprised she didn't end up with lead poisoning from tracing templates....

I've been dabbling with a Double Wedding Ring which is all templates. I bought a small wheel rotary cutter and a swivel cutting mat. Still a pain.

Ahhhh, the good old days…not! Cardboard templates cut from cereal boxes, trace around them with pencil and cut out with scissors. It took forever and you didn’t get the accuracy that rotary cutting and rulers give. Tip…we used to glue fine sandpaper on the back of the cardboard template to prevent slipping when tracing.
