Default alternate binding ?

Some where in the last few months I read a post about cutting binding wider than normal, sewing it on the back, flipping to the front to stitch down. The raw edge then sticks out toward the body of the quilt. That part is clipped like doing a raggety quilt.

Anyone remember seeing that? I'm helping a 4-H'er make her t-shirt quilt for crafts. Just thought it would be a fun finish.

I've tried to dodge traditional binding by using raggedy binding in a number of ways, but I've never tried what you just described…think I will, though!

I saw a quilt with a binding like that in the Show and Tell on Missouri Star site today, maybe try looking there, I don't think I'm allowed to put a direct link to it on here.

Here's the post, which has a link to the tutorial.

Thank you so much. That is exactly what I was looking for. I think it is a fun binding for a 15 yr old doing her own t-shirt quilt.

Again, the members of this board are great!

You can also use a facing by sewing the wide binding to the front and then turning it all to the back so that none shows on the front. No apparent binding at all.

cut the binding 4" wide x WOF, fold in half and press. sew raw edge to back of quilt, turn to front and pin, stitch in the ditch on back side , having fold excess towards quilt. cut sections for fringe then cut folds
