I only wear shoes to sew when I'm using one my treadle machines. Otherwise I'm barefoot, except in the winter when I wear my thick wool socks. I'm currently wearing a pair of flip flops.

I wear socks, can't sew with a shoe on my foot. Just love being in "touch" with my machine.

I sew with my socks on. I can get better control and I also have my the back of my foot on the leg of my office chair. Have to take a brake a little more than most, but works for me.

I am assuming by all the coments on sewing without shoes that you did not learn to sew in school, because I am sure my teacher never would have allowed us to go barefoot in class. And like I stated before, you do not want to step on a needle and have it break in your foot. Surgery and 3 months on crutches is not fun.

I am always bare footed, winter and summer! I can not use the foot pedal with shoes or socks on. It is like taking a bath with clothes on!!!! Even at church when we quilt I take my shoes off. My quilt buddies give my a hard time about it, but I have never stepped on a pin. I do have hard wood floor in my quilt room and that makes dropped pins easy to spot!
