I'm making a second quilt for this woman the first one I stippled a little well the second quilt is 74 by 100 she she wants the whole quilt stippled I am charging her extra just for my airuful thread, I have been through almost three spools of thread.I think I'm a professional stipple.

I also have a Bernina BSR. However I didn't like using it. I use the darning foot, lower the feed dogs, put the needle in down position and go from there. The stitch length can be tricky to keep even but it just takes some more practice. I imagine the fingers on my hand for loops or mountains and how they look at a distance. I also practice drawing loops by doodling on paper when I am on the phone. Try to see it in your mind first. The BSR was just too slow for me and the darning foot gives you more freedom and faster speed too when quilting. The Bernina works best at an even rate of speed and the hand and foot coordination comes with practice. You can also slow down the speed of your machine when you start and then adjust it as you get more comfortable sewing. Hope this helps.

Just checked my bookshelf, and this is one of the few quilting books I don't own. So, I'm putting it on my list of Things To Buy At Houston. The "pattern" approach to stippling has me intrigued. Thanks!

When I go to quilt shows, I play with other sewing machines
and long arms and my stippling looks great. My friend tells
me I'm a natural. However, when I get home and try stippling
on my machine it looks awful (and my machine is a Janome 6600
the same machine I play with at the quilt shows.)
Figure that out if you can! I sure can't!!

The only machine quilting I do is stippling. The hardest part is getting through the middle of the quilt, and after that it is just gravy. Sometimes my stitches come out different sizes, but for family who doesn't know any better it's great! And I'll never tell!

Yep it cant do it. My friend took a class with Harriet Hardgrove and she said it changged her life. I am amazed at what she does that goes for all the others I know that took her class . I just missed it. On the 30th I am taking a class at my LQS hope it helps. Its from 12:30 to 3:30 I will let you know how it turns out.
