Well hello :) to one and all. Wondering if anyone has made a lap (log cabin) quilt and if so....please what amount of fabric was used? I've been wanting to make a log cabin quilt for sometime now but don't have a pattern with the amount of fabric required to do so. Would love to hear from any body that could help me.

It really depends on what fabric you use. If you use various fabrics or just 3 or four different ones or even scrappy, using lights and darks. I'll see what I can search out for you. How big do you want it?

Outside of having a pattern specially for the log cabin you choose this may help.

Here is a free lap size log cabin pattern from ConnectingThreads.
Click on the download button on the right and it should tell you how much fabric is needed.

Thank you, thank you dakotamaid....this will be a great help for me. You are a 'Quilter's Angel' and I won't forget your kindness! I thought of making either a wall hanging or a lap quilt first. Then proceed onto a Queen size for our bed at a later stage. Got loads of fabrics that I've bought in fat quarters over the years....so have quite a good stash. Will just have to look for lots of light in color fabrics. Hope the site or link you gave me won't disappear.....LOL

It depends on the size of your log.
