    Default Another binding question

I have a bl/wh quilt with red/white pinwheels. I want to make the binding in two colors but not one color on the front and one on the back. I've searched the archives for a tute on making a two color binding but to no avail. I want to make a binding with a very thin (almost cording) strip of red and the rest of the 2.5" binding in black. So, when you look at the quilt it will have the thin red and then black binding. Can anyone help me as to how to do this? I don't really want a thick red line just enough that it shows. I thought there was a tutorial on how to do this process but I can't find it with the searches that I've tried. Thanks for your help.

Try doing your internet search with the words "quilt binding piping".

Try searching for quilt binding with a flange, there are quite a few tutorials out there. I have done some on my quilts and I like the look. Hope this helps

    THANKS FOR THAT LINK
I LIKED HOW SHE DID HER SCRAPPY BINDING.
I HAD DONE MINE YEARS AGO (didn't notice Caps til I looked up from keyboard) by sewing scraps in a row - the binding then had the scraps at a right angle to the quilt. I never did another - didn't look that good.
I much prefer how hers turns out

I have made bindings exactly like you are asking about. I thin binding is cut 1 inch wide, folded in half and stitched on like you would a border, top and bottom, then the sides. Your last binding 2.5" can then be applied as usual. Hope this helps, any questions let me know.

I make my binding using two different colors. The first color would be black and I cut it 1 1/2". Then I find then use the red you were talking about and cut it 2". I sew the two pieces together side by side (after I have attached all the binding end to end) and iron in half. You will have 1/4" of the red sticking out. So, you lay the 1 1/2" black fabric against the back of the quilt so that the red is facing you. Then you turn it over your quilt ends and you will see the 1 1/2" black fabric with the 2" red sticking out 1/4". Then I machine sew it between the colors. It leaves a nice lip on it. My LQS owner taught me this way and I love it. That's one easy way to do the binding like you want it done. If you want more details, pm me.

This is a great tutorial on a two color binding that is made all in one. You get the same effect as with the separate flange piece. Check it out.
