Having read past posts about Walmarts fabric department disappearing. Well at the time I was thankful my store was safe. Not anymore! Was there 2 weeks ago still intact. There yesterday gone! They always had something I liked. They gave no notice. Spoke to a sales associate....said it was done over night. She didn't know where the existing fabric went. I guess fabric heaven!  What a shame.

I am sorry to hear that. My Wm is the only one with fabric with in a 50 to a 100 miles. The prices are going up so I haven't bought anything in a few months.

I knew the prices were going up but I felt bad for the quilters that could only shop at these stores. I shop in all quilting shops but liked the convienence while out shopping for other things. Oh well.

When they do a remodel sometimes they send it to another Walmart.

Sometimes they put it on sale.

I think they are making a big mistake doing this too!.

Walmart is in the process of shooting themselves in the foot

When they moved in the small towns the existing stores raised a big stink, everybody went beserk, Walmart opened and created competition, mom/pop closed up because their merchandise had been in the store so long the boxes were faded and the stuff was antique but the prices were never lowered.
Walmart - at the time - promised fair prices for AMERICAN made goods - to give the American worker an outlet for the goods and a reasonable price to buy.
Now that the mom/pop places are all gone and there is no more competition, Walmart is eliminating a HUGE amount of the things they carried and getting in a lot of out and out junk for sale.
Yes, I shop at Walmart - I was tickled to death to get those laptops - yes we bought THREE - for the unbelievable price of $298 each! but that doesn't mean I want the cheapest clothes that you can't wash more than twice before they fall apart/fade/look like crap, (boy did we get some HUGE bargains at Kohl's this weekend!)
There's a fine line between bargain and garbage and Walmart is crossing over it in many ways and losing customers.

On that note, neither of the two Walmarts here have gotten in any really new fabric for quite awhile -

We have one walmart 50 miles south with fabric because of an Amish community the other 50 miles north only carries the precuts now.

If WM is loosing customers they totally deserve it for what they do to and how they treat their customers. What goes around comes around. Your reap what you sow as the saying goes. So sorry for those of you who rely on them.

Our Walmart has the same fabrics they have had for as long as I have lived here(two years.) They also come up with some new ones occassionally, that are usually sold at $1 or 2. Some of it is poor quality, but some seems to be just fine. I wonder if it is fabric from another store. I would be sad if they got rid of the fabrics. Even if I don't buy anything I enjoy looking whenever I have time.

I have all but given up on Walmart. I go there for pet food, clothes, etc but even their food had gotten pretty high. I don't like the way they "sucked" us all in and then betrayed us. I'll do my grocery shopping at my Kroger from now on and feed my quilting addiction at JoAnne's.
