Love that idea!!

I already do most of the other stuff - especially with things like opening the big bottle of V-8 and then trying to remember how long it has been open. I also go through my canned goods once a year and weed out anything closing in on expiration that I think I won't use - those go to the food bank. I started doing that years ago before they started putting expiration dates on the products.

Love your ideas on the lightswitch & appliances. Would never thought of that! I do mark my frozen and home canned foods, as well as other things that need dating. Another good use for colored sharpies: I mark the shanks of my new sewing machine needles in diferent colors depending on the size, as soon as I get them home. Just a couple of strokes on each one and no more trying to read that tiny writing to see what size needle it is.

I write the date on the AC filter so I'll know when to change it. Really saved me one time when the landlord had to call in an AC repairman, and he tried to say it was because I hadn't changed the filter! I got the filter and said OH BUT NO! Here's the date right here! HaHa!

My friends accuse me of being too "anal" because I do the same thing with all the stuff in my house; I date everything also. They can't be bothered to stop one second to jot down the date and then wonder when that was purchased, etc. I write the date of purchase inside the refrigerator and freezer, on the outside of the washing machine, etc. I even write on a piece of masking tape the date when my water filter should be changed out and put it on my pitcher. We're all so smart, aren't we!!!!!

Those are great ideas. I used to do it for some, I should start and do it for everything.

I date just about everything in my home. From box of cereal to spools of thread to batteries to large package of toilet tissue. Never have to guess when an item was purchased this way. Glad you had a light bulb moment.

Yes, I date everything from needles, thread, canned goods, but what is it that you turn over rotary cutter blades? Do you get double cutting time?

I do this with the print cartridges in my printer simply to see how long they last....or don't last! It fuels my despair at how often I have to change the darn things, which is probably adds to my stress, but at least I know.
