Default Any advice on cutting or doing a quilt on point?

To date, I have not been successful in my ability to put a quilt on point. The triangles have been wonky and just don't seem to be the right size, along with the fact that the material stretches so much. However, I am willing to try again and need advice. Help? Tips?

You need to make sure that you are cutting your setting triangles so that they don't have bias edges on the outside edge. Here's some info on cutting the appropriate sizes:

Also, starch the setting triangles heavily so they don't get distorted.

good suggestions above. just take it slow and go one corner, then one row, etc at a time. here's my start.

And don't cut your edge triangles (setting and corner) ahead of time according to the size the pattern says. Wait until you have squared up your blocks to see the size yours are, then oversize those triangles a little bit when you cut them.

Agree with all of the above, especially the starching. I will use the starch 2 or 3 times on pieces to get the fabric edges really stiff.

Having the setting triangles with the straight of grain on the outside edge really helps to stabilize the edges.

ditto to all of the above. I always heavy starch my fabric before cutting to help on stretching.

I don't even think of it as on point. Rather I renamed it as a quilt trimmed to size. I tend to starch/Best Press all my material anyway. For the corner and side triangles I even cut them a bit bigger for wiggle room.

Renaming made it easier for my mind to visualize it.

That's the secret...no bias on edges....many places on line that explain how to do.........love the striped blocks.....must try that!

I realize that this is probably not what you are talking about, but here is an interesting way to turn squares sewn together into squares on point:
