since the bodies and the wings are all made from one continuos piece of fabric, i'd say repro. they come out of asia and you can find them on ebay as sets. they're very nice anyway. and you really can't beat the price for handwork.

also, the white is thinner than the white fabrics i've seen from the 30's into the 40's. i think these are supposed to look like the 30's and they do.

if you trim them down to the smallest size, match all the black handstitching on the bodies and sash them, you'll have a great quilt, either for a wall or for a very special baby.

edit: the butterflies appear to be die-cut. i am an authority on butterflies, after all. ROFL

I would guess the 30s. Butterflys were popular and the fabric look like feed sack.

I do not think they are feedsacks. A little later period maybe, 50's/60's?

My grandmother had a similar quilt - the butterflies outlined with a black blanket stitch. So charming! :)
I agree with your years.....and my grandmother did ALL of her applique with black embroidery floss and a blanket stitch. What memories those blocks bring back! Your local quilt shop could see if they recognize the fabrics as reproductions...
