I made a rectangular quilt with a central focus that was wider than tall. I added borders, adding an inch to top and bottom pieces. ie: 3 inches wide on top and bottom pieces and 2 inches wide for left and right sides. In first pic, you can see that I added a final piece on top and bottom only.

That is going to be so beautiful. Maybe if you had some borders and make the lone star the center focus. I also like some of the ideas that you are getting from other members here.

Thank you, everyone for such great suggestions. I'm going to take pen to paper this morning and do some sketches so I can figure this out. I bought fabric for the star but decided to wait to buy fabric for the borders and whatever else I'll need for the top. I'm going to have to make up my mind about this in the next week because I'm in the UP where quilt shops are few and far apart. I'll be taking a trip back downstate where lots of quilts shops give me tons of choices on the batiks to use. Not everyone has a great selection of batiks.

So, keep giving me ideas and I'll follow up with my sketches when I figure some things out.

That is going to be one spectacular quilt. Don't forget to post the finished product.

How about making a couple more lone star blocks and put them down the middle then add borgers?

Oh, I don't want boogers all around the quilt.

I've been cutting, pasteing and sketching. Which idea do you like the best? I'd love your opinions.

Picture 1- half stars... they don't fit perfectly nor do I think I could make them fit right.

Picture 2- spear points... should I turn them the other way, put them all the way across the 15" border? Ideas, please.

Picture 3- twisted ribbons... Is this too plain for the busy center?

I like the middle one. It brings in more components of the star.

It is beautiful. I would go with the extra borders. Make sure and ask Them some questions: do they use a dust ruffle and if so, how far from the top of the mattress top to the top of the dust ruffle, then add several inches oneach side. If no dust ruffle, how tall from the floor to the top of the mattress top. Queen size can vary so depending on the thickness of the mattress. Good luck. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
