I do not have a hexagon template and want to draw an 8" hexagon. How long is each side? Any help will be appeciated.

well this site says if you want four inch sides, order the eight inch hexagon template....

but you can
draw an eight inch square, then find the center. measure out from the center two inches and mark top and bottom of square(that will be four inch hex sides). then mark the center of the square on the sides and draw from that mark to the top and bottom four inch sides you made. do on each side. there you have it.

If you want 8" from flat side to flat side (the height), the sides will be 4.6188"
If you want 8" from point to point (the diagonal), the sides will be 4".
Here's a calculator for any size hexagon. Fill in the measurement you know and hit 'compute'.

Do you have a 60* triangle ruler? If you do 6 -60* triangles pointing inward, they make the hexagon. All you have to do is extend the lines to whatever size you want.

Kaye Wood has a tutorial on making a hexagon star pot holder. I was trying to do it, of course without the pattern, and haven't been very successful. I give up. Thanks to all. I'm going to bed and cover up my head.

I'm amazed when someone can do math! My husband just brought home a 10,000 ton train. I asked him how many pounds that was. He's been up all night. He got home at 6 am. He couldn't think straight so he couldn't tell me. I still want to know the answer to the question. Anyone know?

Did you know that there is more than one definition of a "ton"?

Assuming that you are talking about avoirdupois weight - there are 2000 pounds in a "short ton"

2000 x 10,000 = 20,000,000 pounds

When someone asks for hexagon measurements, I never know which dimension is wanted - - and if the measurements are for a finished or unfinished size.
