I did that when I took sewing in home economics class when I was in the seventh grade. Boy did that hurt! I learned from that experience to keep my finger out of reach of the needle.

Yea, I haven't ran the needle into my finger--yet-- but I have had my pinched by the screw on the shank while sewing telling me I'm too close. Then i cut through the tip of my finger with the rotary cutter, twice, two different fingers, two days in a row!
I'll join the stupid club too. I don't remember home ec teacher saying that sewing was hazardous to our health- she kept saying what a economic thing it was.

never took that extra stitch, but i ran it through the nailbed and the bone and out the other side. had to take the needle out of the machine and drive to the hospital to have it removed. then i took it home with me because it was my last one. don't do that. it was too blunt to use again.

I sewed my finger when I was about 6 and don't remember too much about it. Using grandmother's peddle machine and just went through the side flesh.. But about 40 years later I was trout fishing with my 2 preteen sons and put a fish hook through the web of my hand. Oh Lordy! Had to drive 15 miles around the lake to get someone to cut off the hook so i could pull it out backwards to get it out and then 20 country miles to an ER for clean-up and a tetnus shot. Egad! All the kids wanted to know was "will we ever find that fishing hole again?"

I did that many years ago, and had to call the neighbor to come turn the wheel to get it out. Good thing the phone was right next to me and all I had to do was press one number and the phone rang. I can still feel the pain as I read your email. Take care.
