What do you do when you applique and one of your underneath colors shows through the top applique. I'm overlapping flower petals and the green leaves underneath are showing through the pink flowers. It doesn't look too bad but I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this.

Do you have any non woven fusible interfacing? You could use Eleanor Burns technique just for the real light pieces. Check out her website for tute :D

I wouldn't worry about it, the wind blew a bit and the leaf was exposed long enough to be seen.
You could use a double thickness of the pink or the interfacing Livelylady suggested.I keep the dryer sheets and use them inside for extra coverage.

I read somewhere that you could cut the material out leaving just 1/4 of an inch around the edge but fraying worries me.

I cut the backing out behind my hand applique all the time. It's never caused a problem for me.

But for your project, the green might not be so noticeable once you sandwich the quilt.

This has happened to me with flowers with round petals. I ended up making a double layer of the same top petal fabric ………..just not adding the ¼ inch for the needle turn. If you are not doing needle turn, I guess if you use a double layer of fabric it would work. I was using a light yellow and the green showed through from the leaf behind it……….I just couldn’t leave it that way. Good luck.
