    Default Arrghh! Valuable lesson learned!

Not all masking tape is created equal! I took a craftsy class where the instructor had us use masking tape to mark our lines, well guess what, the masking tape I am using will not stay adhered to the quilt top! I thought I could get it to work and used it to space 2 parallel lines, but it kept coming off! This is a baby quilt, so not a lot to feed through my machine.I ended up putting the tape on the underside of my ruler and using a water solvable marker to mark my lines. I was hoping to not have to mark!

Next time look for the "Floriani" pink tape - it sticks much better than regular masking tape and I often use it for in the hoop embroidery projects. It costs about $5 a roll but works so much better that you can even reuse it a 2 or 3 times at least. I remember fighting with the blue masking tape and soooooo share your pain!

I am really surprised a class instructor would recommend masking tape, since it tends to leave residue behind and is difficult to remove. You are lucky it didn't stick! The alternative would have been much more upsetting. Some people have had luck with blue painters tape and there are a few specialty fabric tapes that do not leave behind unsightly sticky residue.

I use blue painters tape and just put a few straight pins along the tape if it wants to go walk-about.

I use painters tape as well. Be careful about using any other, it will leave residue and make your walking foot stick to the fabric!

I put the roll of painters tape back in the garage after I found Washi tape. It's available in all craft aisles mostly in the scrapbooking section.

Trapunto - yes it is! I buy it at my local dealer which carries a vast array of embroidery/quilting supplies, plus fabric. It works great and I haven't had any problems with residue.
