I like the colors and when it is done will look lighter than you think. Don't over think it. It will be fine.

Default I'm a guy....

I'm a guy...I like it a lot...Also true, won't show dirt and will look good longer. He probably has other things to do than do laundry.

I like the color changes you made in the L, sure made the star tips more pronounced - great job! Looking forward to seeing the whole quilt. Please thank your son for his service, I am so proud of them all.

I love the replacement colors. Is this something he is to take back with him? They do have limited room when they return and regretfully things do disappear. If he leaves it at home, laundry won't be much of an issue later on.

As the mom of a soldier who has been deployed 3 times, I know this to be true.

It looks wonderful and since it is made with love, that is the only way it will ever be perfect...regardless of colors or skills.

Give him a huge hug and let him know we all do appreciate him and his honor.

Another military mom and wife here. The light and dark fabric combo is fine. If you do use the gold for the binding, then I would choose a light gold for the quilting and do some nice designs in the darker areas. You will be surprised how that will brighten it up. Please thank your son for his service, and as a mom I hope that your worries will be few. My husband did two Iraq tours before retiring, and our son is currently stationed in Okinawa, Japan. My warmest prayers and blessings to you and your family for your son's safe return.
