Backing fabric
I always lay my quilt top on top of my backing to check the size. I just like to see how much I want to leave extra in case it pulls in during quilting. I had about 2 inches at the top and bottom. Imagine my relief when the backing ripped askew but with extra instead of being short. I will do my sandwich with it up to about 1/2 inch from the top because if the top ripped like this then the bottom will be crooked to. Do you all rip your backings or cut?

I lay my top on the backing and cut it evenly because I've noticed that sometimes just the process of ripping will skew the entire piece. (Love the cats - I've made that one in shabby chic fabrics)
