Bad Quilting Habit ?
#91
I think I'm becoming a top hoarder! Or at least I can see the potential. Just this week I finished piecing a scrappy Jacob's Ladder I started last year AND pulled out a piece of hand quilting that hasn't seen a needle since last year. I'm usually very strict about not starting anything else until the current project is done to the binding. In my defense I was babysitting my infant granddaughter. Now that I am no longer sitting, I must say it's great to get back to my sewing. However, my niece is getting married next October and I absolutely MUST start her wedding quilt. It has a ton of applique and since I am slow as molasses with that I really need to start now. So...the JL may have to wait. I can really see how the hoarding starts!

The lqs I go to buys quilt tops from a couple of ladies that have your problem. They do a lot of quilting for others and just add these to their things to do. I've never asked but assume they sell the finished products.

Get busy, ladies. Get those tops quilted don't let them be wasted.

on the other hand, i once had the opportunity to turn a top made by a friend's grandmother into a finished quilt. it was an honor i don't expect to encounter often in my life.
we've also heard from more than one member who was inspired to start quilting because they wanted to finish an ancestor's quilt.
i don't have UFO's. i have future heirlooms and archeological treasures. (that's my story, and i'm stickin' to it.   )

There's a lady that sells just the quilt tops on ebay...seems, she, like you, enjoys the process of designing and sewing the parts into tops but doesn't enjoy the quilting/binding/backing process...but for those of us that like that part and not the beginning steps, I'm thankful that she's willing to sell just the tops...   Or, maybe there's an organization(are there girl scout quilters/sewers near you or senior citizens groups) that would like to finish them...
My worse habit is getting all enthused with the planning, buying the fabric, etc. and then stall in actually doing all of that cutting, sewing, etc. to complete the top... :-(

My problem is not finishing the quilt tops but too many kits waiting to be started. I take my tops to be quilted by a friend that has a LA quilting shop. I just can't handle that any more. But, alas, I just went to QuiltFest in Jacksonville and succumbed to temptation and bought more kits. The show was great!

It's just not my thing unless it is a very small project. I've wasted too much time ripping a mess out that it is worth it to me. We all spend $5 a week on something we don't need at the grocery store; I just decided to set my priorities.

No, I have to finish one quilt before I start another one or else I know I will never finish it. I just finished quilting one and already have another one pieced and ready for sandwiching. Just waintin to get the backing.
