Definitely! I have purchased them off of eBay (altho not recently) for cheap. I like it that it is high quality fabric.

There is a quilt shop within driving distance that gets salesmen's samples of cotton fabrics but not on the header cards. They are usually groups of 4 to 8 colorways in various sizes similar to what you saw. Owner bags these into 2.5 lb. bags and sells them for $7 each on special sale days such as Super Bowl Sunday. I have purchased them many times and always find enough fabric that I like to be worth the $7. What I don't like, I either use in charity quilts, trade or donate. Love, love, love these bags.

I don't know if I bought the same thing but I was in a shop that sold some of the enders and leaders of the bolt and they were selling them by the pound. I love scraps and felt that I got a great deal because I didn't have to buy yardage but got some pieces to fill in for a lot of blocks. Some of the pieces were fairly large too! It was awesome!

I went to a craigslist sale that had loads of fabric samples like you're talking about. I think I spent $90 that trip but came away with a ton of batiks and lots of whimsical fabric pieces that I wouldn't have bought yardage of. Many of the samples had the same fabric but with different colorways. When I picked each one out, I kind of had a project in mind. It was so much fun for me, and DH was right by my side, saying--here, you need this one too, don't you? So, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase more if given the chance...

I was fortunate to be given a huge pile of them from my LQS owner. I was in the shop at the right time. They were glued on so I just used the rotary cutter. The smaller pieces went straight in the scrap box and the rest were cut up into charms of varying sizes. If I saw them again I would snap them up.
