I was told bamboo/polyester batting was wonderful, and I got lucky buying quite a bit of of it just before the price skyrocketed. My quilt has been sandwiched and I'm now trying to hand quilt it -- but it is so heavy I can hardly move it on my lap. Also, I'm seeing that my hand stitches frequently don't go all the way to the back of the quilt. Anyone use this bamboo batting? Same troubles that I'm having? Any way you've fixed or avoided these problems?

Bamboo = rayon. I have machine quilted it with much sucess ... It sounds like it is thicker than what you useually use?

The bamboo batting I used was light and silky. I machine quilted it but didn't find in any heavier than a polyester batting.

I really like the feel of the bamboo batting but my longarm quilter did not care for it when she quilted the quilt for me. Have never used it with handquilting but have done wall hangings etc on my home machine and liked how it quilted up.

I've never used it. Can you make a little sandwich and try ironing the sandwich to make it flatter? Watch to see if it melts or refluffs (my concern about ironing)

what is your quilt? are the fabrics heavy? the bamboo batts i have purchased are very lightweight- and very easy to stitch---i would think a bamboo/poly blend would be used for machine quilting not hand quilting though---poly batts tend to be a bit heavier- and loftier.
you might try a longer/sharper needle-like a 10 straw or a milner, or even sharps.

Sorry I found the opposite - lovely and light on my lap and the stitches just glided through effortlessly - are you sure its bamboo

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. The batting feels soft and lovely (I love it), but it definitely feels thicker than anything I've used before (Warm & Natural, etc.) I have never given a quilt to a longarm quilter before ($$$) and I like knowing I made every stitch of my finished quilts, but this time will be an exception. I guess I've learned that bamboo is for machine quilting only, which I can't do. Thanks again for your comments!

I am surprised. I have used it for handquilting a number of times and liked it. I do have a hard time figuring out which side of the batting goes up. I know it makes a differance. Something about the skim? You would think after 40+ years of quilting I would know.
