Are the batiks in Connecting Threads and Keepsake Quilting catalogs good batiks? it sounds like you have to be careful about buying them. JoAnn's is really my only local store for quilting fabric and has some batiks.

Your quilt is amazing. So vibrant and colourful. It must have been quite a project. How long did it take you?Originally Posted by ruthrec
I, too, love batiks. The colors are so vibrant and each quilt is different. The quilt shown here is totally batik. There are 22 different fabrics in this quilt and the colors make the design. The pattern is the basic log cabin. So easy to do and looks so complicated.

I love the pic in your avatar. Do you have any other pics of quilts you have made?Originally Posted by hikingquilter
I have been in love with batiks for years. I gravitate toward them whenever I'm in a fabric store. I drool, I fondle, I buy. I've made several quilts using only batiks or batiks and a solid. I am working on another now. All of the quilts shown in this thread are absolutely beautiful!

I can't seem to look at anything but Batiks. It's like no other fabrics are in the quilt shops.
Your quilt is just "Beautiful" ,a true work of art. Thanks for sharing!
Wow... they are amazing quilts. The second one looks very much like the Australian Opera House. Originally Posted by Minnisewta

You are not alone.... It's very hard to tell with some batiks. Sometimes it doesn't even matter which side you use. It all comes down to the fact that the majority of Batiks are dyed all the way through. The best advice I can give you is to use which side you think is best.Originally Posted by Cdrlinda
I also love Batiks. I am a new quilter and sewer. I have trouble distinguishing the right side of fabric from the wrong side. Any suggestions?

The design came from the book called Quiltagami by Mary Jo Hiney. She does some lovely designs.Originally Posted by Ardelle Coult

I thought if I did a black center (which would be cut in fourths) it would help unify as I have a wide variety of colors. I showed my fabrics to a non quilter, and she got a very funny look on her face. Will this end up being too wild? Do I need to stick with just a few colors? I have some deep tones and also a couple very lights...Any suggestions? I love looking at all your batik quilts!
Art comes from the heart. Don't fear other people's judgement. A non-quilter will not understand so don't put too much effort into trying to please them. Just do your quilt and post it in here were people understand and can truley appreeciate it.
