When the batting says to quilt every 2"-4" , does that mean I can do rows 4" apart or do I have to do 4"squares? Also has anybody tried that batting that has iron on basting right in it?

You can quilt up to 4" apart in rows or however you like. Sorry, I've never tried the batting that you're speaking of.

I'd think you would want to secure it in both directions because quilting at 4" in one line creates a tube effect and the batting in that tube can distort or even come apart. Since the instructions call for tight quilting (Mine in comparison can go up to 8" apart) I would not risk it.

you need to grid your quilting...if you do rows of stitching say across the quilt every four inches that is great in one direction but you need to stitch every 4" in the other direction too...
other wise you could have 4" of quilting x 70" ( just a number representing the width) your batting can pull apart bad in all that distance...when it says 2-4 inches there should be stitchind every 2-4" no matter where you place you hand. you do not have to do a grid but you do need to 'fill the space' every 2-4"

i use Hobbs Heirloom 80/20 fusible. I soak the quilt after it's completed to get rid of the fusible stuff. works well.

It means 4" squares -- quilting no further than 4" from another quilting line (in any direction).
