hey all,

I used to buy a 80/20 with scrim from walmart and absolutly LOVED it for baby quilts, I could get a king size for 15 bucks and do 4 baby quilts.

my problem is they dont carry it anymore??? or they dont make it at all.

is there something else that works good for babys? with scrim? that I could pickup at joann or hobbylobby?

I have tried several and NOT happy with the results

oh! its for hand quilting, so thats why I prefer scrim

I'm sorry, I don't know what scrim is. I handquilt a lot and my favortie batting is Hobbs Heirloom but it isn't real cheap unless you can find it on sale. It is an 80/20 blend.

scrim is one of the two ways they bond the batt, its a layer of poly they needlepunch in. it hardly shrinks and is VERY durable.

the hobbs suggested is resin bonded, it was my next choice to try but I didnt know how durable??? these baby blankets need to be tough suckers :)

the two others I tried where "soft and crafty" and "polyfil cotton classic"
didnt like either because the one was stiff and the other had to much give.

I dont know if the trick is in the title? like "heirloom" is not bonded and "classic" is???

I wonder if Quilters Dream is what you are looking for. It has a very soft drape, and I think it has scrim but I'm not sure. I know many people love it for hand quilting.

ooooooohhhhhh!!! Quilters dream looks AWESOME, I havent tried it yet. do you know where to buy it? any idea how much $ ?

the hobbs I did try in craft weight and loved the feel

right now im doing a king size and the batt is pulling on every stitch! GRRRRRRRR.... MAD

I think its a bamboo.. I quess that brand dosent work for hand quilting :cry:

Here is a link to a description of the different types of Quilters Dream batting. It doesn't have a scrim, but it is needlepunched, very smooth, and does not require close quilting:

I guess if its needle puched well enough you dont need scrim to make it durrable

now I just need to figure out what loft "select" is :lol:

Im usally very hesitant to buy anything online that I havent touched and felt for myself. but with your ladies help I think I will be back on the road to happy quilting instead of angry quilt store shopping :D
