Hi, I'm a beginner, know the sewing basics, but I'm looking for baby quilt patterns. straight seams, etc. I have cute watermelon and the coordinating green stripe as my basic color palette.

Any ideas for crib quilt patterns? Thank you in advance

Hi Wendy - welcome to the board. I hope you enjoy making your first quilt.

Some blocks I would recommend for your first time are:

http://www.quilterscache.com/F/FourP...tionBlock.html

http://www.quilterscache.com/N/NinePatchBlock.html

http://www.quilterscache.com/N/NineP...tionBlock.html

http://www.quilterscache.com/T/TheAttractionBlock.html (this is a bit more challenging - but it is one that seems popular with younger people - I would recommend doing the 8" block)

Welcome from Michigan.

Rail fence is a good block for a new quilter.
