Best cutting mats--need all your thoughts

I loved my fiskars tri-fold, but they don't make them anymore. The grey/orange combo was easy on the eyes and the markings were easy to use. I bought an Alvin on-line and hate it. Too hard/slippery and the markings were so hard to decipher as well as too far away from the edge. I now have the martelli and absolutely love it!

Just ordered it
I've had my large Olfa for more than 20 years and it's still fine.
It's got magic marker stains from when my grandson was a toddler; it'll be nice to work on a clean one.
The deal you posted was too good to pass up.
Don't know anything about the Martelli mats, but I do know their cutter and blades can't be beat.
The rotary cutter is so much easier on one's wrist and the blade is sharper than others I've used.

I use Olfa. I don't know why anybody would say it is too thin. Never had a problem with it and I use it on many surfaces. I've had my Olfa mats since 1994. My smallish one (18x24) will need to be replaced in the next year or so - the front is worn, but the back isn't worn out yet. I never use the lines, so either side is fine to use.
My problem is the really small mats. The ones I could get locally (Fiskars) are really hard and dull my 18 and 28 mm blades very quickly. I had a small Olfa one and it walked away at a quilting night. I didn't know Amazon sold mats, so I'll have to look for a small one there.

Alvin double sided professional are the best I have ever used! I talk aobut them all the time. I get them from our local college bookstore and have bought over two dozen by now for all my quilty friends. I only pay about $22 each there. I have been using the one side of one for about 3 or 4 years now with no problems. I have a stack of them set to the side for future use....just not sure when the "future" will be!

I really want one of the Martelli mats. They don't warp and with light color on one side and dark on the other makes seeing exactly where to cut easier. You can roll them up to transport or to store and they go right back flat when you unroll them Also think I want one of the Martelli rotary cutters, but want to try one before I buy it.
I like the sound of those mats. But check out the TruCut Rulers and their ergonomic cutter before making your final decision. We love ours. I was able to try them out at Neal's Sewing in Muscatine, IA.

I need to replace my small mat. Are all Alvin mats the same? All I see on Amazon are big ones. I had one of those rotating Olfas which aren't really that cheap and it's going to pieces already. Also you can't use the other side

This is what I want. A Martelli Mat. I have used their cutter for years and LOVE it!!! Just wish I could buy the Martelli around here and not have to order on line. They don't come to the Road to California Quilt show any more and I can't make it to the Long Beach International Quilt show next week as I will be out of town.
