44" is just the circumference - not the amount you need for piecing the strips and overlap at the end.

Are you planning to do the continuous bias strip? Or are you planning to cut individual strips? How wide do you want your strip to be? Lots of questions.

Yeah... got it thank you ladies so much.... I finished my project and I only had about 6 inches of waste.... worked great.
