I'm working on an applique pattern with vines. I bought the suggested bias bars to make the vines. How do I make the vines curve? Here is a picture of the pattern I bought.

Did you cut the fabric on the bias? If so, just place it at one end, secure with a pin or glue (or stitches), and start laying it out along the curve shown in the pattern. You can lay out the whole vine before sewing, or lay out just part of it and sew that part before going further. It's a cute pattern.

The bias cut of the strips allows you to mold the vines into the shape you need because the bias edges can be stretched. Typically what you want to do is secure an inside curve first (with a pin or glue or basting stitches) so it lies flat; the bias on the outside can then be stretched to lie flat along the outside curve line. If you do the outside curve first, you may find there is too much vine fabric on the inside curve.

As others have suggested the vine pieces are cut on the bias. The bias bars will give you nice even pieces to work with. I used lots of pins for my last applique vines but after QB I might try washable glue instead. You have to do the inside curves first as others have said and coax the outside edges to stretch and lay flat. It is a bit tricky but with the bias strips it does work. Good luck and show us when you get it done.

Are there actually bias bars out there or are you referring to pressing bars? I'm asking this because I'm also doing an applique piece with curvy vines. This is all great and very timely info. Thank you all!!!
