Always machine sew the binding to the front of the top, turn it over and hand stitch the back. Looks good to me.

I do both depending on wat the quilt is for. Any quilt for a toddler gets the machine treatment. Everything else is hand sewn on the back.

I want to try a decorative stitch like quilting angle does. I think it's a neat idea!

As I've said before about the only thing I do by hand is 'fork to mouth' ... that said, I do hand stitch down the edges of a quilt's hanging sleeve and hate every stitch I make.

I have been sewing by machine for my wallhangings and by hand for bed quilts. My hands get really stiff and sore when I do it by hand.

I machine sew the top and hand stitch the back. I think this makes the quilt look better for all the binding stitches to be hidden.

For utility quilts (which includes baby quilts), I machine stitch front and back. For large bed quilts I machine stitch to the front and hand stitch to the back.

I have had many of my quilts in competition so I have always sewn the binding to the front by machine and then hand stitched it to the back. With the beginning of arthritis, I am not sure how much longer I will be able to do the hand stitching.

I have taken 2 quilt classes & we have hand sewn the binding onto my quilts. I have yet to machine stitch it on.
