OK. Here's what I do.

I iron the binding over to the front and will use a glue stick to secure it. The I don't need to pin it in place or worry about puckers. When I sew on the front I choose a decorative stitch as I prefer the look to a straight stitch.

I like the look of the decorative stitch over the straight stitch, softens the look and adds to the quilt.

I like to machine sew binding on front, then roll to back and use a blanket stitch on the front.....may I ask why you sewed on back to bring to front...I am not criticizing or challanging you....just asking, perhaps your way is better than mine.

I use a machine blanket stitch all the time! I think more and more of us are doing machine stitching on binding.
