Blessed at a Yard Sale
#21
When I went into the hospital for major surgery two months ago I wrote an addendum (sp?) to my trust that if I didn't survive, my machines and assundry supplies were to go to a new quilter, and all my stash and UFO's were to go to the outreach group in our Guild for making charity quilts. I have two daughters and sad but true, it would all end up in the trash if left up to them!

I figure my DD will just throw all of my stuff out. She keeps asking me why I need all of that "stupid fabric", but I've noticed that when she needs something that requires cloth, she comes right over and helps herself. LOL!

Well, I think I was just blessed today at a yard sale. A woman's mother had passed away and the daughter was selling a huge box of completed quilt blocks , books, patterns, etc. She wanted $20 for the whole lot. I only bought a baggie of cut Hawaiian 4"squares and almost the book, as I really didn't need completed blocks. ( I like to get fabric to make my own). Any way, I told her if it didn't sell, rather than throw it out, give it to the Sr. Center because our quilt group makes charity quilts. Well, before I left, she GAVE me the entire box (book included). After I got home, I think I can put together at least 5 lap quilts for charity! I wrote her a short thank you note and did a happy dance.

sounds so familar! My daughter says and does the same thing.. I told her I'm saving it for when I retire cause I won't be able to afford to buy it then, and i'll need something to do .... LOL

If I honestly expected a gift I'd made to end up in a yard sale-----------it would be finding a new home.

I had the same thing happen only I knew the lady that gave me her Mother's unfinished quilt blocks. So I made a quilt out of some of the blocks and gave it to the daughter as a keepsake from her Mother which neither one did any kind of quilting. She told me thanks and that was the best gift she ever recieved. Every time she looks at the quilt she thinks of her mon as they were really close.
