Don't worry - If you're left out in the cold you can just wrap up in your bordered quilts to stay warm.
As long as you don't tell the border police on me.

I love to hear people say "you can't do that in quilting" or any other crafting. I had someone tell me that you can't make quilt without a pattern. Really? hmmmmm... You can do what ever you want unless someone has requested something particular.

I treat qult designs and recipes the same. They are merely suggestions and I put what I want in them lol.

The teacher at my LQS said that the first thing you do after you learn the "rules" is to break them all :D

I do remember hearing at some point that the size of the quilt determines the width of the border you use. That is obviously just a guideline for most of us, maybe some folks think it is written in stone somewhere. My thought is - your quilt, your choice - no border police here!

I don't always add a border. It depends on the pattern I'm making and the amount of fabric I have. Besides, like others have said, I'm making it I get to decide.

I've noticed the wider borders in quilt magazines lately & I think it's a simple way to add area to the quilt having nothing to do with style or rules. We'd still be doing everything by hand if there weren't people who have stepped outside the "box".

No. Do it as wide as you like, or as wide as it looks suitable for the design of the quilt.
