I will soon be attempting machine quilting. After seeing it mentioned here on the board, I would like to try Bottom Line thread in the bobbin. Since it is a fine thread, would a size 14 needle still work? I read here that for machine quilting, a size 14 needle was a good choice. Is it still a good choice when using Bottom Line bobbin thread? TIA

The needle would be for the top thread. I use bottom line in the bobbin and a regular needle for the embroidery thread or whatever I have in the top

I have quilted using Bottom Line as a top and bottom thread, and used a Topstitch 80/12 with no problems at all. Superior recommend a Topstitch 14/90 though if you have a quilting cotton in the needle.

I use bottom line thread in my bobbin when I machine quilt and use a 14/90 needle. Works like a dream.

I like bottom line on the top an bottom. I like to do very intricate quilting and I use a size 60 or 65 needle with no problem.

Ditto - although I use a 12 needle in either case: a sharp, top stitch or other good point. I never use Universal needles for machine piecing or quilting, actually I never use them at all - not sharp enough.
