For your S16, you can use any thread top/bottom and not even matched up.
You will need to adjust your tension until all is good.

I use Bottom Line with King Tut on top almost all the time on the HQ16 and have no problems. Not with the threads anyway.

I use Bottom Line exclusively in my long arm bobbin. Just use regular thread in the top with no problems. My bobbin case is set for Bottom Line thread.

I use Bottom Line prewounds in my ancient HQ16. I use Connecting Threads Essential Pro for the top. No problems at all. I do not quilt for $ just charity and my own.

So if you use bottom line in your long arm, do you actually tighten up the bobbin tension a bit more than the HQ site says to? At the quilt show in Houston today, the lady told me she tightens the bottom line thread quite a bit - significantly more than the official material.

I use a Towa gauge and go by that for setting bobbin tension. I use BottomLine both top and bottom, mix with other threads (I rarely have one color in bobbin and 2nd on top)--what ever I want for a particular quilt. One thing I have run into is I need to adjust the tension on my stand alone bobbin winder when winding BottomLine or Marathon threads comparable thread, otherwise it's too tight on the bobbin--I'm popped a bobbin out of round due to that.

This is all I have used. I did not get a bobbin winder with my used machine. I go by the Jamies Wallen video. I usually tweak each one just a bit. I run my bobbin looser that HQ demos.
