Tension is perfect while sewing without the BSR. I'm wondering if it could be the way I am guiding the quilt piece through. Today I'll be practicing practicing practicing

What a great article. I'm going through the checklist it suggested this afternoon. Thank you for your help!

New word for me to. Then I got this wonderful Bernina (I have been sewing on a Pfaff - great machine as well). Anyway when I saw the BSR Bernina Stitch Regulator demonstrated at a quilt show I was hooked; and my Pfaff was getting really old (still ran great), but in a moment of "weakness" I splurged on the Bernina with the BSN. I am learning the machine now.

Don't fret about adjusting the top tension, as it is easy enough to put it back to where you started with that machine. While some will tell you to adjust the bobbin tension, that is the one that is not-so-easy to go back from where you came ....... I've never needed to do that, and have done miles of FMQing with my 820 and the BSR.

So go for a big adjustment ... and if it is way beyond and showing on the bottom side ... then back up the other direction.

Sounds like the bobbin tension needs to be tightened. It's like a little dial in the hook area, when the machine "presents" the bobbin. I've also found that using polyester thread (Superior's Omni or SoFine, or Metler's Polysheen), instead of 100% cotton thread, makes a huge difference. I also like to use a size 90 or 100 topstitch needle.

Call your dealer and talk to one of the associates. They usually can help.

If the tension is correct when you are sewing without BSR then I am wondering if you have the BSR set up correctly. Feedbags down, cord to the attachment plugged in, BSR balance button pushed? I have to do mine in the order the book says to make it work correctly.
