I was working on a project Saturday for a quilt class I'm taking and I think I've finally been initiated! I'm learning to sew and quilt at the same time, so I'm just getting comfortable with my machine. My 2 year old grandson was there. He decided to come over and "help" me and ended up moving the lever that changes the needle position. I almost freaked out since I didn't know what setting it was on initially. I figured it out...he had moved the needle left about 1/8" of an inch. Then, I was sewing along and my machine made a horrible noise!!! I looked down to see that I had run over a pin and broken my first needle. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out how to replace the needle (heaven forbid I should check the manual) and on with the project I went. I learned two great things about my machine and I also learned it's probably not something I want to do when the little ones are around :)

Oh dear, I'm glad you didn't damage your machine.

Well, now don't you feel like a "real" quilter? Better keep a sharp eye on those little bitty fingers!

Yep, you've been initiated!! I broke a needle this morning while doing embroidery and had to hunt for the broken end. (I hate that!!)

And sounds like your grandson likes sewing too!

Oh, good. I'm not alone. I do not like looking in the manual either. Takes time. What am I thinking! I could spend LESS time fiddling around if I looked at the blessed manual. :-)
